University of Tennessee Beautification Project – Phases 1 & 2

Classification of Project: Underground Utilities
  • Location: University of Tennessee
  • General Contractor: Merit Construction
  • Engineer: Vreeland Engineers, Inc.
  • Description: Massey Electric Company was contracted to install new roadway and pedestrian lighting as well as prepare the university for updated communication infrastructure.  Our crews installed communications vaults, precast concrete manholes, innerduct, Copper wiring, PVC piping, and excavated 48-inch trenches for the communications duct bank and 24-inch trenches for the new lighting installations. Multiple excavators, augers and dump trucks were used to prepare and reconstruct the area from UT Drive to Peyton Manning Pass/Circle Park Drive.

Sorority Village

Classification of Project: Outside power fiber solution
  • Location: Knoxville, TN (UT Campus)
  • Description: The Data Comm Division was contacted to run fiber optic cabling to security cameras around the perimeter of the University of Tennessee’s Sorority Village. The crew installed 10,000-ft of 4 strand 16 gage CommScope powered fiber optic cabling to 28 mounts that house Avigilon Cameras.

Ronald McDonald House

Classification of Project:  Lighting upgrades
  • Location: Knoxville, Tenn.
  • Description: Massey Electric has been doing work for the Ronald McDonald House of Knoxville for almost a decade. Service crews recently completed multiple exterior lighting upgrades for security purposes. Ballard lighting was installed along the pathways, pole lights were upgraded with LEDs and new flood lighting was installed around the house. The project only took a couple of days to complete.

Lenoir City Utilities Board (LCUB)

Classification of Project: Structured Cabling
  • Location: Lenoir City, TN
  • General Contractor: Merit
  • Engineer: Michael Brady, Inc.
  • Description: Massey Electric’s Data Comm Division installed 170,000-ft of category 6 cabling in the new 180,000 square-foot Lenoir City Utilities Board headquarters. They also installed 11,000-ft of backbone fiber cabling to the network closets and added 76 wireless access points. Our crews ran backbone fiber from the new LCUB facility to the new event center across the street and installed the structured cabling as well. LCUB is the eighth-largest power provider among the 155 TVA power distributors.  The new headquarters houses state-of-the-art operations, dispatch center and a highly-secure data center.

Honda Dealership

Classification of Project:  Lighting upgrade
  • Location: Airport Honda, Alcoa, Tenn.
  • Description: Airport Honda contacted the Massey Electric Service Department for an interior lighting upgrade in order to save on energy costs and lighting maintenance. The service crews performed a lighting retrofit on the dealership’s existing showroom fixtures to make them compatible with LEDs. They installed 40 SATCO Hi-Pro Multi directional LEDs to brighten up the showroom. The project only took a couple of days to complete.

Eastman Corporate Business Center

Classification of Project: Commercial
  • Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
  • General Contractor: Balfour Beatty
  • Description: New construction of Eastman’s Corporate Business Center as designed by Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. The site includes 300,000 square feet of multi-story interior corporate office space to accommodate over 850 employees. Among many additional features, the building includes a cafeteria, dining area, customer meeting space, and a fitness center.

Cochran Place

Classification of Project:  Ourdoor lighting upgrade (decorative pole lighting)
  • Location: Maryville, Tenn.
  • Description: Massey Electric’s Service Department retrofitted the existing fixtures on the outdoor decorative pole lighting at Cochran Place residential neighborhood to accommodate new LEDs. Hi-pro multi beam LEDs were installed providing an opportunity for crews to adjust the LEDs direction so the light did not shine directly in peoples’ homes. 15 decorative pole toppers were retrofitted and the project only took a couple of days with a small bucket truck.

Fedex Ground Facility

Classification of Project: Design/Build
  • Location: Knoxville, TN
  • General Contractor: D.F. Chase, Inc.
  • Engineer: Vreeland Engineers – Chuck Lutrell
  • Description: 210,000 sq ft new facility with warehouse and office spaces. We provided all electrical work including over 50 roll-up doors. Extensive sight lighting for large area to accommodate hundreds of trucks daily.

Comcast Knoxville

Classification of Project:  Commercial, Remodel
  • Location: 5720 Asheville Hwy. Knoxville, TN 37924
  • General Contractor: Merit Construction
  • Engineer: Larry Headla – Facility Systems Consultants, LLC
  • Description: 92,000 sq. ft. complete renovation of service center and offices done in multiple phases at an accelerated schedule. Upgraded lighting to LED with full dimming capability and upgraded all switching to fully automatic with occupancy sensors in every office.

K-VA-T Food Stores – Food City stores

Classification of Project: Commercial – Retail
  • Location: Powell, TN
  • General Contractor: JA Street
  • Description: 51,600 sq. ft Grocery Store with full service bakery/deli and pharmacy. Site work included lighting and Gas & GO center.

Pellissippi Place

Classification of project: Utility
  • Location: Alcoa, TN
  • General Contractor: Blount Excavating
  • Description: Furnished and installed roadway lighting and underground utility power for the R&D park.

Ayres Hall – University of Tennessee

Classification of Project: Institutional
  • Location: UT Campus, Knoxville, TN
  • General Contractor: Johnson & Galyon
  • Description: The building was designed by Miller, Fullenwider and Dowling of Chicago, and completed in 1921. An extensive restoration was initiated in the fall of 2008 and completed in January 2011. The renovations included central air conditioning and heating and installation of a Verdin Clock. The faces for the clocks were in the original designs, but had never been installed due to costs.The Gothic Revival structure rises 140 feet (43 m) above its base.  The building currently houses the offices of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences as well as UT’s mathematics department.

Ray and Lucy Hand Digital Studio – University of Tennessee

Classification of Project: Institutional
  • Location: Knoxville, TN
  • General Contractor: Rouse Construction
  • Description: Institutional, renovation of existing areas of the Neyland-Thompson Sports complex to house the broadcast studios of the ESPN SEC Sports.Renovation included lighting, theatrical lighting racks and installation of fiber optic cable to link sports venues across the campus.

Green Mountain Coffee

Classification of Project: Industrial
  • Location: Knoxville, TN
  • General Contractor: Johnson & Galyon, Inc.
  • Description: This Vermont based company recently expanded it’s operations to the East Tennessee area with the purchase of a vacant 334,000-square foot building. The facility is quickly being reconfigured with new equipment and processes to support the roasting, grinding, packaging and distribution of coffee, in particular it’s Keurig single-cup coffee brewer product line. The owner is also targeting upgrades to it’s facility to be “LEED” certified, implementing many steps toward a more efficient and energy savings building.

Anderson Hall – Maryville College

Classification of Project: Institutional
  • Location: Maryville, TN
  • General Contractor: Joseph Construction
  • Description: We took a historic building and gave it new life. We updated the building by adding new energy efficient LED lighting, state-of-the-art lighting controls, and modern communication infrastructure. We also brought it up to ADA compliance with the addition of an elevator.

Cherokee Millwright and Mechanical

Classification of Project: Industrial
  • Location: Maryville, TN
  • General Contractor: Joseph Construction
  • Description: Hook up of the new state of the art Spiral Duct Machine and addition of energy efficient lighting during the recent expansion of Cherokee Millwright.

Maryville Municipal Center

Classification of Project: Commercial
  • Location: Maryville, TN
  • General Contractor: Merit Construction
  • Description: This landmark project is a 3-story building totaling 95,000 square feet that consists of administration offices, community meeting rooms, data center, Police and Fire station for the City of Maryville.
